Chess the Musical Auditions!
Bookending a year of ABBA in Nelson, BC, the Amy Ferguson Institute is pleased to present CHESS on the Capitol Theatre stage, in collaboration with Black Productions and Forstmedia.
We are positively seeking actors, singers, and dancers ages 18 and up to come out and audition for Broadway’s supreme cold-war musical! The separate auditions for chorus and leads all take place at Nelson’s United Church (602 Silica). Scheduled auditions for the choral roles are on April 27th, 2019, from 10am-6pm; scheduled auditions for the lead roles are on April 26th & April 28th, from 6pm-10pm. Callbacks are scheduled for Monday, April 29th at 7pm. (All times still to be confirmed). Leads and chorus members are requested to bring in a prepared song to showcase their vocal range, and leads will read a scene provided at the auditions.
The most popular fictional portrayal of chess ever created! Set during back-to-back World Championships, CHESS is the story of a love triangle between two grandmasters – one American, one Russian – and the women’s champion who serves as a manager to one of the players but falls in love with the other.
Led by the worldwide hit album, the anthemic beauty of Benny & Bjorn’s catchy songs and epic orchestration uplifts this captivating tale of love, politics, and gamesmanship! CHESS is directed by lifelong ABBA-lover, Lisel Forst (Grease, Chicago,The Marriage of Figaro), with musical direction by Robyn Lamb (Into the Woods, Mamma Mia!) and choreography by Mackenzie Hope (Cabaret, Rock of Ages).
Rehearsals will primarily be Wednesdays and Sundays in September, and the show will be performed at the Capitol Theatre in October, 2019.
